Well guys, I am excited to say the 17 year wait is finally over.  The legends of alternative hip hop metal polka, Faith No More, are back with a brand new song from their as of yet to be announced new album.  The song simply titled “Motherfucker is streamable via Rolling Stone here and judging from initial fan reactions is indeed a Mother Fucker.  In the brief minute that I was scrolling through the comments I saw a fair number of complaints deriding the songs structure and slightly obnoxious attitude. Personally I’m digging the song and from the stories I’ve heard about these guys, dividing fans is what they do best. So in short I think this song is a good sign as far as this reunion goes and I’m looking forward to see what these stalwarts have in store for us unsuspecting fans.

Highlighting the new Insomnium

Image

One impending release that I have shamelessly neglected to comment on is the new record from sure to be melodic death metal legends Insomnium, Shadows of the Dying Sun.  Thankfully due to the stream of another new songI feel like I can no longer overlook the amazing music that these Finlanders are putting out.  So this article will not only be me hyping up this new song but also the others that have been released as well, cause believe me…They’re all winners \m/!

First up, we have the newly released track titled “Black Heart Rebellion” which is streaming over on Insomnium’s sound cloud page.  I’ve gotta say, this track is the perfect combination of Insomnium’s two distinctive styles. In the song, their beautiful doomy side clashes with their up tempo epic as fuck melodeath side and the results are beautiful.

Next up we have the as always extremely well done music video, “While We Sleep”. And hold on tight ye metal heads, this song contains…Clean Singing!! Oh the horror!  But hold your harsh judgement for a second, this style of cleans fits the music really well and adds wonderfully to the overall mood of the song.   And no worries the brutal growls still the primary style of vocals used.  Also the ending of this song is a powerful emotion filled climax if there ever was one.

Next up is the lyric video for the song “Revelation” which is more or less your straight forward Insomnium track.  In comparison to the scope of the other previously mentioned tracks, the song seems weaker.  This is more of a testament to the quality of the other two songs rather than the lack of quality of “Revalation” which I can assure you is a very good track.  It has some amazing melancholic guitar melodies scattered throughout.  I could see this track being a great transition track between the more ambitious songs that seem to be on this release.

The final track is one that was released last year, appearing on an EP of the same name, ” Ephemeral”. And damn! This song has one goal, to burrow deep into you mind with it’s intense catchiness and lodge itself there for the forseeable future.  So if you guys don’t mind that happening, go ahead and give it a listen \m/!

So from those 4 tracks, I’d say that you’re able to get a pretty good taste of what’s to be presented on the full album.  And in this writers humble opinion we are all in for a real treat.  If you want further proof of this impending awesomeness just check here, there, and way over here.  One last reminder Shadow of the Dying Sun will be released in all of its glory next Tuesday via Century Media.

All Rise for the Killers and Kings

I’m feeling especially proud of the title that I created for this news article..  I don’t want to toot my own horn or nothin’, but it seamlessly uses the titles of the two songs that I’m covering in this article and it sounds cool to boot.  Anyway, enough of me patting myself on the back like a douche bag, here comes some new jams \m/!

Image

First up we have the track “All Rise” from recently announced group Wovenwar.  Just to catch up those of you who aren’t in the know, Wovenwar is the new band featuring 3/5ths of As I Lay Dying (Tim Lambesis is absent for some reason…) and Oh, Sleeper’s Shane Blay.  This means that a lot of people are probably pretty excited to get a taste of these guys musical leanings.  I will tell you this, there are no screams or gutturals in this song. So imagine less chuggy As I Lay Dying instrumentation with some above par cleans. Personally I think it’s an undeniably catchy song if not really all that exciting.  Anyway here’s the song.  This track will appear on Wovenwar’s currently untitled debut album which will be out this summer on Metal Blade Records.

The song that finishes my over-hyped news title is the new Machine Head single that appeared on their Record Store Dy exclusive 10″ also titled “Killers & Kings”.  I’m assuming that this track will appear on their upcoming still untitled new album which will be out this fall on Nuclear Blast.  So yes, if you were not one of the lucky ones who were able to make it out to a record store this past Saturday, fret net!! For IFLHM has got your back!  Jam the new song bellow then definitely tell me what you think.  Personally, I think this is the sound of Machine Head trying to keep things simple and maybe fresh.  While I am digging the groove of the track and the sick riffs scattered throughout, I admit that I miss the much more epic scope of their Blackening and Unto the Locusts material.

Also, as always, here is a sick jam to listen to while reading this equally sick news.

Arch Enemy Actually Wage the Eternal War

Image

It’s only a couple days since we found out that long time vocalist, Angela Gossow, was leaving Arch Enemy with The Agonist vocalist, Alissa White-Gluz, coming in to take a shot at filling those somewhat big shoes. In the practice of wasting no time, Arch Enemy have debuted a music video for the title track off of their forthcoming LP, War Eternal, to showcase their new vocalists talent.  And I will say this while the song is nothing new for Arch Enemy the vocal performance from Gluz is one of the highlights.  She definitely has a different sound than Gossow and her vocals sound a bit more guttural.  As far as the other instruments go everything else sounds like business as usual with Amott showcasing a solid guitar performance as always.  Anyway I still don’t know the actual release date other than it’s supposed to be in early June via Century Media.  As usual I will keep you guys in the loop as I receive more news.  Any here’s the music video followed by a youtube link for the song.

Down Apparently Knew Him Well

Image

So if that new Metallica song wasn’t really your jam, no worries there is still a chance for you to find something awesome to headbang to this Monday.  Down have just released the first song from their upcoming second EP Down IV – Part Two.  The song titled, We Knew Him Well, was debuted on Stereogum.  All I have to say is Damn!  The track brings the heavy as fuck riffs and hearkens back to their classic NOLA.  I’d say this is my second favorite song released for Down IV so far (you can’t top Misfortune Teller) and definitely pumps me up to hear what else is in store.  Anyway here are the goods.  Enjoy!

Devil You Know Want You to Spend Seven Years Alone

Image

So that lame title means that the Devil You Know really hate you or that they’ve released a new single titled “Seven Years Alone” off of their debut album, The Beauty of Destruction, which is to be released on April 25th in Europe and April 29th in the US.  Jam it bellow and tell me what you think.  I personally see it as treading the same old ground that Killswitch occupied back in the mid 2000’s.  This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, cause I love a nostalgia trip as much as the next guy, it just means I’ll see most of the surprises and punches coming

New Whitechapel Song

Image

Calling all Whitechapel fans!  It’s time for you to get pumped and turn where ever you currently are into a giant circle pit.  Whitechapel have released a new song called “The Saw is the Law”.  This the first song to be released off of their upcoming 5th album titled Our Endless War to be released April 29th via Metal Blade RecordsDefinitely be sure to jam the song bellow.  Personally I’ve never been big on Whitechapel, but I will say that when it comes to live performances these dudes crush all comers and I could easily see this song tearing it up in a live setting. Anyway that was me trying to get excited now for those of you who are actually pumped here’s the jam.

They do need to try harder next time to find an original song title though:
