We may have jumped the gun about announcing the Deftones releasing the album Eros

This statement from frontman Chino Moreno sheds more light on the Deftones thoughts about releasing Eros, their last set of recordings with late bassist Chi Cheng.

“We’re actually not entertaining anything. I get asked about that all the time. And I’ve been giving the same answer for like… ever since people have been asking me about it, I’ve been saying that ‘probably someday.’ The only thing I said differently the other day that I could think that I said was ‘sooner than never.’

I mean you know now there is some sort of closure with what happened with Chi. That was obviously… Him and his state that he was in and you know, in general, it wouldn’t feel right to try to even think about going back to that record and trying to release it at that time… You know, with the hope that he would still wake up.

I don’t know, so we never really looked back at it then. But with his passing recently I mentioned that I did listen to some of the music. It was a very emotional experience because it took me back to that time when we were recording those songs, and those were pretty much the last days that I got talk with him and have a conversation with him, so… And when listening to it I thought to myself it might be cool for people to hear this sooner than never. Will it happen soon? I don’t know, probably not.

That’s the thing, I never really talk about that record. I don’t think any of us really do, but we get asked about it almost every interview. Like ‘what’s up with that record?’ It’s cool because people are curious and I understand that and everything.

It’s just a thing that we weren’t ready to reflect on. I mean it was hard for me to listen to it the other day. You know… reflecting on something that was pretty… it was pretty deep. Just a very fresh wound that we just received with Chi‘s passing. So I don’t know, it’ll be [out] sometime I think.”

And we all will just have to wait patiently for it.

Deftones last album with Chi, titled Eros, to possibly be released

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno made the following statement about Eros, which was the last record Chi Cheng was on (but was not released), at the Golden Gods Awards Show:

“It will, I think more so now probably than ever. I actually went back and listened to some of it recently and… you know, I don’t know, when or, you know… but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that as to, you know, in the last few years to think about.”

Let’s all cross our fingers for this one. It’d be great to hear more of Chi’s work. And a new Deftones album is definitely something to look forward to for many metal fans.

Palms release debut single, “Patagonia”

Listen to the pretty sounds…

Reminds me almost of something Between The Buried And Me might make for a soft song in between the metal ones on their albums.

Palms consists of Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno and previous Isis members Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris and Bryant Clifford Meyer.

Palms self-titled album will come out on June 25.

Alice in Chains finish recording new album, out in 2013

The grungy, heavy metal Seattle, WA, band Alice in Chains have completed the recording of their new album, which is yet to be named.

Lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell had this to say about the new album:

“It’s like having to deal with the sophomore jinx for the second time in our career.”

True statement right there, considering the band had 14 years in between writing their self-titled album in 1995 and Black Gives Way to Blue in 2009. And BGWTB was GOOD. The next album will have only allowed the band about three years of writing since BGWTB.

However, Cantrell did also say that “this new one is right up there as well” with BGWTB.

Alice in Chains worked with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has experience working with the Foo Fighters and Deftones, on their new album.
