New Animals as Leaders Song

Image

Over the weekend I informed you guys about the exciting details of a new Animals as Leaders album.  Now we are getting our first look at said album thanks to newly released song, “Lippincott”.  Go ahead and jam the track bellow and definitely tell me what you think.  It sounds a little different than what I was expecting yet still similar to what was found on their last LP Weightless.   So does this make you more excited or wary of the release date, March 25th, of The Joy of Motion?

New Animals as Leaders Album Info

Image

I admit I’m a little late at getting around to this awesome piece of news which was released Friday. It involves awesome instrumental progressive metal band Animal as Leaders, who just revealed a good amount of juicy information about their new upcoming third LP titled, The Joy of Motion.  The Joy of Motion will be released on March 25th in America on Sumerian Records.  So for a good majority of people, including yours truly, 2014 just got a tiny bit more exciting.   I’m really interested to see were Tosin and the boys go with this release to say the least.  Will they continue down the jazzier more atmospheric path they started with Weightless or maybe another path altogether.  Sadly the only way to know for sure is to be patient for a little over a month.  Until then though, we at least have this short clip of new music to keep us company.

First Metal Album Ever Turns 44 Today

Image

Guess what!!  There’s an awesome Birthday party going on today and all of you, that’s right YOU, are invited.  This big day I’m referring to belongs to Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album which turns 44 today.  In many a metalhead’s eyes, as well as mine, this is the very album that spawned our beloved genre of music and was the first of its kind.  Many could make the argument that without this dark menacing masterpiece the metal world as we know it would be entirely different if here at all.  So let us all take a moment of silence to thank Ozzy, Tony, Geezer, and Bill for creating the album that started it all. Then let us all commence jamming to this masterpiece bellow.  Don’t forget to head bang mother fuckers \m/!

Behold the Metal: January 2014

Image

I know I’m a little late in publishing this and for most people the month of January is well in the rear view mirror and the month of February is what it’s all about (and with releases from Behemoth, Woods of Desolation, Cynic, and Soreption I don’t blame you guys).  Still I implore you to check out this list I made of the highlights from last month, I’m pretty sure there is something in here for everybody.  Anyway, here’s the actual post:

Everyone knows that January is not the best month for new metal releases and new music releases in general.  The earlier part of the month is generally used by most people to catch up on the previous year’s highlights one might have missed while the rest of the month is used by labels and bands to hype up albums to be released in the first big wave of album releases which generally comes in March.    With this being said some amazing metal albums still saw the light of day this past month and I encourage you metal fans out there to not get swept up in big name albums quite yet, at least not before checking out some of these gems after the jump.

Decapitated About To Enter Studio

Decapitated-2012

Decapitated just posted this UPDATE to their Instagram account which contains a photo accompanied with the following message:

“New album coming soon. Rehearsal before studio”

I know it’s not much to go on, but it’s enough to get super super excited.  And it’s been 3 years since Decapitated’s last release, the crushing emotional driven Carnival is for Ever, so it’s about time we got a new slab of technically spine shattering Polish death metal.  As of now no word on whether this is going to be a 2014 release or what, but I will keep you IFLMers in the loop as I get more information.

Lorelei Album Stream and New Music Video

Image

So I might be a little biased in this upcoming news piece.  It’s for good reason though; the awesomely crushing symphonic deathcore band, Lorelei, is a group of local heroes in my local scene of Raleigh, North Carolina.  I’d say that their easily one of the biggest up and comers and will most likely make a big splash in the metal world as a whole as the year goes on.  But now enough of my hyperbole, and on to the actual news: Lorelei just released their debut album Lore of Lies this past Tuesday on band camp where it is streamable and I highly recommend that you check it out.  To accompany Lore, they’ve also released their first music video ever for their song “Salem Town”.   Seriously this is a lot of awesome firsts for this band.  Here’s hoping for many more in the future.

Septicflesh Announce New Album

1653941_10153749554890386_667080625_n

Mighty Greek symphonic death metal band Septicflesh just posted an update from the studio where they are working on their as of yet untitled 9th studio album.  This will be their first album since the well-received The Great Mass that came out in 2011.  Here’s the update in its unabridged entirety:

“We have completed the recordings of our upcoming full length album. The album will consists of 10 songs that were recorded once again at Devasoundz Studios Athens Greece and at Prague with the collaboration of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. The album will be released this summer via Season of Mist for Europe and via Prosthetic Records for America.  We are really exhausted, but also very proud from the result. We worked very hard with Logan Mader (former MACHINE HEAD and SOULFLY guitarist that has worked considering album sound, with bands as CAVALERA CONSPIRACY,FEAR FACTORY, GOJIRA) to bring you the ultimate death metal soundtrack for your darkest dreams. The compositions are progressive with a lot of emotional peaks, while at the same time the songs sound very aggressive. Also we had the chance to work for the first time with a full children choir, beside the regular adult choir, and that helped us dive deeper into darker cinematic atmospheres. “

Holy shit! This album is going to be epic to say the least and I’m pretty sure even that description is underselling it.  I mean it has an orchestra, a children choir, an adult choir, progressive compositions, AND emotional peaks.  I’m definitely excited for this release, which just shot up to one of my most anticipated albums of 2014 along with At the Gates, Agalloch, and Mastodon.

If you need a reminder of why these guys are so awesome, here it is:
